I'm Not the Same

by Sincerely, Iris

/

about

Over the past few years, the music of Sincerely, Iris has started to veer towards the bluesier side of the spectrum. It all started with the experimental album, License Plate Sessions, which was recorded almost entirely on a homemade 4-string License Plate Guitar. “I’m Not the Same” brings together those swampy-slide guitar elements with the traditional folk/rock of Todd’s earlier work.

lyrics

I’m Not The Same

I’m not the same as I was back then
I’m just a ghost of the places I’ve been

I shed no tears for the man I was
I left him buried in the midwest mud

I stepped away from the games you played
You pulled your tricks and so I walked away
Don’t be surprised that I’m acting strange, I’m not the same

The moon it walks behind me every night
The moon it hides behind me every night
My heart is heavy but I travel light

What doesn’t kill you makes you strange
What doesn’t kill ya makes you change
Wash until you’re clean, but you’re forever stained

You’re in my thoughts but I don’t say your name
You’re in my heart, but I don’t say your name
Just a dusty picture with a broken frame, I’m not the same

Raise your glass for the bad old days
Would you prefer it any other way?
Just a couple hundred things I’d rearrange

Everybody told me it was just a phase
To throw my troubles in the ocean waves
Now they circle round me like a hurricane, I’m not the same

I’m not the same as I was back then

about

Sincerely, Iris Richmond, Virginia

Sincerely, Iris consists of singer/songwriter Todd Murray. He has a sound that can be summed up best as “road trip music.” It’s a style that’s always changing, and always moving along. Whether it be gypsy-esque or like Kerouac's beat up old truck, shaking down the road at midnight, it is at once comforting, and somewhat unknown. He draws upon influences from Jeff Buckley to Billie Holiday. ... more
