Carry the Fire

about

For over 10 years Sincerely, Iris has been a solo act consisting of Todd Murray. In February 2020, just as the pandemic was about to change the world, Todd played his first-ever show with a full band. Over the past year, and with a few virtual shows here and there, the 3-piece has stuck it out and started recording music together. This is the first song that is being released under that lineup.

"Carry The Fire" is a bluesy rock song played on a 4-String Homemade License Plate Guitar. The title comes from the Cormac McCarthy book "The Road." It's about trying to be a good and noble person when the world around you is crumbling.

lyrics

Lyrics

Tell the truth, who are you?
Down below what you show.
Are you gone, dead and gone?
Just a shell of what you want

A heart of stone, and old shadow.
You walk alone, do you want to though?
Rolling on, for so long, does it kill to be so strong?

Chorus
Hold your head high. It won’t be easy
Carry the fire. Until you’re free.

As Rome burns, will you learn? To leave your past with no return.
Are you wrong, dead wrong? Say goodbye, before it's gone.

Chorus
Hold your head high. It won’t be easy
Carry the fire. When You're lost at sea.

Chorus

Tell the truth, who are you.

about

Sincerely, Iris Richmond, Virginia

Sincerely, Iris consists of singer/songwriter Todd Murray. He has a sound that can be summed up best as “road trip music.” It’s a style that’s always changing, and always moving along. Whether it be gypsy-esque or like Kerouac's beat up old truck, shaking down the road at midnight, it is at once comforting, and somewhat unknown. He draws upon influences from Jeff Buckley to Billie Holiday. ... more
